Tour du Rwanda: Police urges public to observe traffic rules and Covid-19 prevention guidelines

The 14th edition of the international cycling competition, Tour du Rwanda started this Sunday and Rwanda National Police (RNP) has reminded spectators to support responsibly to avoid causing or involving in road accidents, and to observe the national Covid-19 prevention guidelines.

The 2022 cycling competition, which started in City of Kigali will run up to February 27, covering all provinces of the country.

“To ensure a successful and safe competition, some roads will be closed to traffic and Police officers will be there to facilitate the public to use alternative routes,” CP John Bosco Kabera, RNP spokesperson, said.

He added: “Most times, when races start, there are a lot of people on the streets and along highways to see the cyclists. We remind them to follow instructions that will be given to them by the police and to avoid anything that can cause accidents such as crossing the road in restricted areas, getting too close to the road, bringing children or leaving them alone or unattended near the road.”

“We urge the public to bear with the changes this competition will bring, respect Police officers who are there to help them and to ensure the safety of the cyclists.”

CP Kabera emphasized that Covid-19 prevention guidelines must be followed, including maintaining physical distance, wearing face mask, getting tested and to be vaccinated. (End)
