UAE donates 9 tonnes of medical equipment to Rwanda including COVID-19 vaccines

Reception of the gift: UAE Ambassador to Rwanda, Hazza Alqahtani, and the Minister of Health, Dr Daniel Ngamije.

The UAE (United Arab Emirates) granted Rwanda a donation of 9 tons of medical equipment including COVID-19 vaccines, and the reception took place last night at Kigali Airport , in the presence of the UAE Ambassador to Rwanda, Hazza Alqahtani, and the Minister of Health, Dr Daniel Ngamije.

“This equipment is made largely of beds for patients, ventilators for COVID-19 patients, and vaccines,” said Minister Ngamije who received the donation.

He added that this donation supports the efforts of the Rwandan Government in the fight against the pandemic, in particular at the level of the purchase of vaccines, personnel and equipment.

Minister Ngamije recalled that vaccines are effective in strengthening immune defense. This is why the country is practicing vaccination to reach 60% of Rwandans by 2022.

“We are buying vaccines. The problem is that manufacturers have not yet developed enough for all needy countries. But the Government allocates a large budget there, because the vaccine remains effective”, he continued.

For UAE Ambassador to Rwanda Hazza Alqahtani, in addition to this donation his country has provided, the cooperation between the UAE and Rwanda continues to grow.

“This donation means that the UAE stands in solidarity with the leadership of Rwanda and the people in times of good and bad. Our country has joined forces in the fight against a pandemic that we will overcome with the help of God. This constitutes the second donation, and cooperation with Rwanda will continue”, he said.

Since March 2021, Rwanda has already vaccinated 425,000 people, and this program continues in hospitals across the country. (End)
