US Ambassador Peter Vrooman bids farewell to Rwandans

The outgoing US Ambassador Peter Vrooman has bid farewell to Rwandans as he exits from his position after nearly four years.

“Friends: After nearly four years, the time has come for me to say goodbye (Murabeho) to the people of Rwanda”, said Ambassador Peter Vrooman.

In a video posted on Thursday in Kinyarwanda, Peter Vrooman said being U.S. Ambassador was the greatest honour of his life “It has been a great honor to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Rwanda”.

Peter Vrooman concludes his tour of duty after representing his country in Rwanda for three years and 10 months.

He presented his credentials to the Rwandan President Paul Kagame on April 6th, 2018 replacing Erica Barks-Ruggles who had held the position since 2014.

During his tour of duty, Peter Vrooman was particularly admired for friendly interactions with Rwandans and efforts to learn Kinyarwanda where he was heard at different times holding speeches in the language.

“I shall remember the four Volcanoes Mountains I climbed: Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabyinyo and Muhabura. I have run more than 6000 Km in different districts with encouragement of Rwandan people. I shall remember the Gorilla Baby Intarutwa to whom I gave a name…”, said Ambassador Vrooman who is going in Maputo in Mozambique to serve his country as Ambassador. (End).
