21st Extra-Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State is taking place in Burundi

The 21st Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State of the EAC underway in Bujumbura, Burundi. Among the items on the agenda to be discussed is the Progress Report and the path to be followed in relation to the restoration of peace and security in eastern DRC.

The Summit was preceded by the 49th Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers on Tuesday, 30th May, 2023.

The Summit of Heads of State is expected to consider the following matters:

1. Appointment of Deputy Secretaries General;

2. Designation of Vice President of the East African Court of Justice;

3. Appointment of Judge to the East African Court of Justice, and;

4. Progress Report and the way forward on the restoration of peace and security in Eastern DRC.

The East African Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organisation of seven Partner States, comprising the Republic of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the Republic of South Sudan, the Republic of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
