CAR Gendarmerie Chief visits National Police College

The Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC) offered by the Rwanda National Police (RNP) College provides a channel through which good leaders and commanders are nurtured to tranform law enforcement institutions on the African continent, the visiting Director General of the Central African Republic (CAR) Gendarmerie, Landry Urlich Depot, said.

DG Landry made the remarks on Friday, November 5, while visiting the NPC in Musanze District, where he was received by the College Commandant, CP Rafiki Mujiji.

CP Mujiji gave the delegation an overview of the College, which started in 1960 as a Police school, transformed into national school of Gendarmerie in 1965, later it became an academy until 2013 when it was redesigned into the National Police College to spearhead the RNP academic programmes as well as professional and specialized courses.

“This College currently equips law enforcement officers from Rwanda and across the continent with academic programmes at undergraduate and post-graduate levels as well as professional and specialized courses,” said CP Mujiji.

Undergraduate programmes specialize in the faculties of Computer Science and Information Security, Forensic Science, Professional Police Studies (PPS) and Law.

The post-graduate programmes offers a Master’s degree Peace Studies and Conflicts Transformation.

The master’s programmes is part of the one-year Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC).

Director General Landry lauded the impact of the College academic and professional programmes on law enforcement agencies on the continent.

“I was hearing about the RNP College training programmes and its impact in the region. Today, I had an opportunity to visit this College to get an insight into its strategic academic and professional courses. When law enforcement institutions work together, they benefit from such training programmes,” DG Landry said.

Law enforcement officers from CAR, he added, will benefit from the training programmes offered by RNP.

DG Landry and his delegation are in Rwanda since Tuesday for a six-day official visit to strengthen bilateral cooperation between RNP and Gendarmerie of CAR.(End).
