The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza received on Wednesday, January 17, a delegation from Burkina Faso at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters, Kacyiru.
The delegation headed by Medah Martha Céleste Anderson, from the Office of the President, include officials from the President’s Office, anti-corruption, and law enforcement agencies, among others.
They are in Rwanda for a week-long and their visit to the RNP aimed at understanding the force’s best practices in fighting corruption.
DIGP Ujeneza thanked the delegation for visiting the RNP. She pointed out that fighting all forms of graft within the force is derived from the national policy.
“Rwanda and Burkina Faso enjoy good relations and your visit strengthens the cooperation and collaboration particularly with Rwanda National Police. We are always happy to share our best practices in fighting corruption and injustice, and other practices that affect development and service delivery,” DIGP Ujeneza said.
In Rwanda, corruption is classified as a high impact crime, and the Deputy Police Chief said that the force has elaborated the national policy in its programmes to enforce zero-tolerance policy where any Police officer caught in corruption related practices is dismissed from the force and faces the law.
To address causes, she said, RNP has digitalized its services which are now accessed online, CCTV cameras, body-worn cameras that helps to monitor the interaction between an officer and the people; speed enforcement cameras which replaced Police officers, among others.
On his part, the Medah observed that Rwanda has made strides in fighting corruption and that the role of the Police is key, a reason they visited the RNP to understand its best practices in implementing the national policy and fighting graft within the force in particular. (End)
