Police officers donate blood

Over 100 Police officers in Kigali donated blood to support the national blood bank. The voluntary human security donation held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters at Kacyiru, was presided over by National Center for Blood Transfusion (NCBT).

The RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that the voluntary blood donation falls within the existing partnership with the National Center for Blood Transfusion (NCBT) to save lives.

“Security also includes the health of the people, and this is a periodic humanitarian act to boost the national blood bank and to save lives in need of blood,” said CP Kabera.

This has been the spirit since 2017, when the RNP and Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) signed a partnership agreement in security and healthcare related programmes, including donating blood.

The partnership also includes fighting narcotic drugs especially among the youth; mental health interventions, fighting sexual and gender based violence as well as counterfeiting, selling and smuggling of pharmaceuticals.

The voluntary blood donation exercise is expected to continue in other Police units in different parts of the country. (End)
