Rwamagana: A joint Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Investigations Bureau (RIB) security operation in Rwamagana District has recovered sixteen school laptops previously stolen from Nyarubuye Catholic primary school located in Munyiginya cell, Nyarubuye, Buyinja village in the Eastern Province.
According to the Eastern Region Police Spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the sixteen laptops meant for ‘one laptop per child’ project were recovered from a nearby bush by a pedestrian who reported the matter to police.
“Twenty computers went missing on April 19, from the school since then efforts have been ongoing to arrest suspects and recovering the property” said CIP Twizeyimana.
He explained that efforts to recover the remaining four computers are underway and invited members of the public with information leading to the recovery and arrest of suspects to contact authorities in the district.
The one laptop per child is an initiative supported by the Rwanda government since 2008, aimed at developing information Communication Technology, (ICT).
The initiative involves availing laptops in all public primary schools across the country to facilitate pupils learning and improve their scope of materials. (End)
