Rwanda, IFAD to strengthen agricultural cooperation

Rwanda’s Prime Minister Dr Edouard Ngirente received Dr. Gerardine Mukeshimana, the Vice-President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The discussions between Prime Minister Ngirente and Dr Gerardine Mukeshimana centered on strengthening cooperation in agriculture sector development between Rwanda and IFAD.

Since 1981, IFAD has financed 19 rural development programmes and projects in Rwanda for a total value of US$631.5 million, of which IFAD has contributed $358.0 million, directly benefiting about 1.5 million rural households.

IFAD is an international financial institution and a United Nations specialized agency. Based in Rome – the United Nations food and agriculture hub – IFAD invests in rural people, empowering them to reduce poverty, increase food security, improve nutrition and strengthen resilience. (End)
