World Bank to host closing event for “The Inclusive Education Initiative, Rwanda”

The World Bank will organise a half day learning and closing event for the Inclusive Education Initiative (IEI), Rwanda, at the Kigali Convention Center tomorrow on February 7 starting at 9:00 am.

The event is expected to bring together over 100 participants including senior government officials, key development partners, school administrators, students, and civil society organizations, and will mark the official closing of the IEI initiative. The event will also showcase the key achievements of the program along with lessons learned during implementation.

Participants can expect to learn more about the global inclusive education initiative and progress on the implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty in Rwanda through expert presentations and panel discussions.

The event will also include an exhibition of inclusive education knowledge products, an overview of the Rwanda Inclusive Education Policy Academy (RIEPA), and testimonials from beneficiaries.

Key achievements of the initiative include expansion of inclusive school infrastructure, development of a data tool to support identification of learners with disabilities, development of audio-visual remote learning materials, enhancement of stakeholder capacity for service delivery through policy dialogues and awareness campaigns, implementation of continuous professional development (CPD) program for teachers in inclusive education, development of teacher training modules, along with consistent advocacy, research, capacity building, and sustainable systems strengthening at Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB).

The Inclusive Education Initiative is a multi-donor trust fund hosted by the World Bank that was launched in 2019 with the support of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and the U.K. Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The initiative, which currently focuses on Nepal, Rwanda, and Ethiopia, invests in technical expertise and knowledge resources to support these countries in making education progressively inclusive for children across the spectrum of disabilities.

The IEI, since its launch in Rwanda, has invested in systems strengthening and capacity building to support the education sector in responding to its needs around inclusive education. (End)
