AGRF Summit 2022 6-9 September in Kigali, Rwanda
High-level representatives from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will be among hundreds of participants at the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) Summit 2022 in Kigali next week, alongside African leaders, development partners, agriculture experts, and agripreneurs.
In its 12 th edition, this year’s summit will be held under the theme “Grow, Nourish, Reward – Bold Actions for Resilient Food Systems,” and is hosted by the Government of Rwanda.
FAO representatives will speak at a range of sessions, sharing FAO’s vision for a transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
Highlights include:
• Welcome remarks by Abebe Haile-Gabriel, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Africa at the Nourishing Urban Communities session on Day 1
• Remarks by David Phiri, FAO Sub-regional Coordinator for Eastern Africa, at a session on driving competitive markets and trade in Africa, also on Day 1
• Panel interventions on Day 1 by Ismahane Elouafi, FAO Chief Scientist (virtual) at a session on food systems science & the policy agenda; Mohamed Manssouri, Director of the FAO Investment Centre (virtual) at a session on experiences, lessons and tools for national food systems transformation; and Ken Lohento, FAO Digital Agriculture Specialist at a session on accelerating data-driven strategies for boosting food systems transformation
• Keynote remarks by H.E. Amb. Hans Hoogeveen, FAO Independent Council Chairperson, and panel discussion interventions by Lynnette Neufeld, FAO Director of Nutrition, at a technical session on nutrition on Day 2
• Participation by FAO Representative in Rwanda Coumba Sow in the First Ladies Special Event on increasing access to healthy diets, also on Day 2.
• Framing keynote remarks by Maximo Torero, FAO Chief Economist (virtual) at the plenary session for the Council of the Wise on Day 3, featuring African former presidents and prime ministers
• Interventions at a panel discussion on Day 3 on leveraging data to improve intra-africa food trade by Suffyan Koroma, FAO Senior Policy Officer; and
• Interventions at a panel discussion on Day 4 on accelerating youth employment in food systems and agriculture by Amadou Fall, FAO Technical lead on the
1000 Digital Villages initiative in Senegal.
Invitation to media field trip
A small group of journalists are invited to join a field trip during the AGRF to visit an innovative FAO project that integrates rice production and aquaculture and that has boosted incomes and access to nutritious food.
