Clinique Ange, located in Kimironko – a suburb of Kigali, was closed Saturday by Kigali city health authorities after unannounced tour of the clinic. Nurses were found to be re-using medical materials which are supposed to be used just once, the health inspectors reportedly said.
The medical center is apparently registered in the names of Senator Mukabaramba but operated by her husband – also a medical doctor.
The clinic looked like it been sometime since it was cleaned. The building housing the clinic was also having tenants living there, which made health inspectors wonder whether it was a clinic or a residential building. There was rubbish everywhere around the place.
According to nurses found at the scene, the clinic was registered when it was in another place which monitored by the Ministry of Health, but recently moved to the latest area which had not been gazetted.
It is normal routine that health inspectors make such visits to medical centers or restaurants and hotels. Several have been closed or warned.
