Festive season: Police calls for responsive celebrations

Police spokesperson CP John Bosco Kabera

Rwanda National Police (RNP) wishes all Rwandan a happy festive season and prosperous New Year, 2023.

As we usher in the festive period with merrymaking, the RNP reminds the general public to enjoy in the usual peaceful manner and to be responsive against anything that can affect the security and wellbeing of the people.

“We have started the festivities when traffic flow and movement of people are high. This requires everyone to act responsibly, motorists to avoid speeding and to observe maximum respect for traffic rules and regulations to avoid road accidents,” the RNP spokesperson Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said.

He added that depending on the festivity scenarios such as prayers, music and entertainment shows, and home parties; all these should not affect or offend others.

“As you go about your merrymaking, personal security consciousness and the sense of self-responsibility should be the priority. Do not let your celebrations and joy cause noise pollution, insecurity or affect the beliefs and wellbeing of others.

When you drink, don’t drive or ride; pay attention when using the road, protect children by not serving them alcoholic beverages, do not leave your children alone at home or your homes unattended as some people tend to use such period to their advantage to steal.”

The festive, like other events, he said, demands a security setting to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations.

He reiterated that security measures have been put in place to ensure that all people in Rwanda enjoy safely and peacefully.

“As usual, security starts with you; report suspected criminal acts or anything suspicious, reckless and drunk drivers,” CP Kabera said. (End)
