Rwanda storms CECAFA U-15 Challenge Cup Semis

Kigali: The Rwanda Under-15 Boys Challenge Cup booked a place in the semi finals of the 2019 CECAFA U-15 Chalelnge Cup after registering a 2-1 win over Tanzania this Friday at Asmara National Stadium in Eritrea. The win over Tanzania sent Rwanda to 9 points on top of Group B.

Skipper Hoziyana Kenedy put Rwanda ahead in the 4th minute with a brilliant strike outside the goal area beating Tanzanian goalie Miraji Rashid.

Four minutes later Rwandan goalie Nshimiyimana Christian fouled Tanzanian forward Fundumo Gaby Joseph in the goal area, awarding Tanzania a clear penalty which was converted by Katuli Rabbin Sanga.

Rwandan forward Irahamye Eric snatched the winning goal with another beautiful strike in the 32nd minute as he curled a long shot past Miraji into the goal nets to end the first half 2-1 in favour of Rwanda. Irahamye has now scored four goals in three matches.

In the second half, Rwanda frustrated Tanzanians as they stopped all their attempts with goalie Nshimiyimana Christian and skipper Hoziyana playing a crucial role in a defensive tactical approach which Coach Yves Rwasamanzi had employed.

Rwanda’s final Group B match against Uganda will be played on Sunday at 15:30. The second game of Group B is currently underway with Uganda playing South Sudan. On Saturday, Burundi takes on Sudan while Somalia will be up against Eritrea in Group A. (End)
