Morocco to Co-Chair Africa Focus Group of Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, addressed via videoconference the participants in the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS meeting held on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Brussels, on the occasion of the launch of a Working Group dedicated to Africa, the “Africa Focus Group.

The inaugural session was marked by speeches of the four co-chairs of the Group, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, as well as the Ambassador of Niger in Brussels, Alhassane Ide. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Coalition’s African member countries.

The choice of Morocco as co-chair of the new focus group is proof of Morocco’s leading role at the regional and international level in the fight against terrorism and support for peace, security, and stability in Africa. It further enshrines confidence and esteem enjoyed by the unique approach developed by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in the fight against terrorism.

The Africa Focus Group will be able to draw on Morocco’s expertise according to the same principles that had always led the Moroccan approach in this field, namely a collaborative and supportive approach and a spirit of collective responsibility and mutual trust aiming at supporting the efforts and the widest possible participation of African states.
